Editing the music video 2

Once we finished editing the rough cut, we used it as a basic structure to build our music video from. We changed some footage and refills some parts to make it better as we got some feedback while we was working on it and we also didn't like some scenes. Therefore w filmed new footage and replaced the old footage. Transitions and effects like slow motion, colour correction and brightness and contract was added too.

After adding these effects we kept watching it over and over and going through to sieve through and make sure everything was perfect, during this process we also changed a tweaked some few bits as editing on the beat was not perfect and there was some overlap.

After this we had some people watch the sequence to tell us if there are some things that should be changed that they notice and we received feedback like a light and tripod in the background could be seen so we rearrange a whole section to make sure that this was not visible and all the new footage matched the song and pace.

Here is a screenshot of the workspace when we finished editing the music video in its final form. We may change it from some feedback but here is its current state:

Editing the music video 1

One the first day of editing, we came together to get all the footage on Premiere pro. The plan was to spend more time on the rough cut and get all the footage we lie in the right place, therefore when editing the final music video we could put the transitions and extra effects straight on and also have more time to play around with some other effects to see what looks good.

First thing that we done was get all the footage we had and put it into a folder and watch it all again to see what is usable and based on this we then put the useable footage into a new folder so that everything was well organised. the reason we had lists of un usable footage is due to doing retakes and bloopers. We then took this useable footage and put it onto premiere pro

Once the footage was all on the editing software, we started putting it all into order and playing around with what looks good where. This means that we could see what footage looks best at what point of the song. We done this for the duration of the lesson as that we had a good base structure to work with.

Here is a screenshot of the workspace and how much we done: at the beginning.

Filming the music video - 2nd day

On the second day of filming we went to lakeside to film both uncool and popular scenes. We was able to do this in one day as Sarah and Shelby brought clothes and makeup so they could change into their poplar characters in the bathroom.

On this day we had much more people to feature in the sequence as we needed more cool kids, therefore we was organising how to film successfully with all these people and how to work around general public. This was a challenge as some people didn't want to be on film so we had to tell them to wait for 1 minute. However some people were happy to be in the footage as they didn't not care and would be happy to be extras.

While filming the actors were filmed being natural as they were looking around and all footage while looking for clothes; they did not know i was filming them. I feel like this makes the acting much more natural and will make these scenes much better.

Filming the music video - 1st day

Our first day filming was where we filmed at school and at shelby's house. These scenes included some performance based, getting pushed by a "cool kid",  "un-cool" scenes and makeovers. These make up a majority of our music video so we made sure to film the scenes a few times and get extra footage.

Before we started we needed to get characters looking their parts so Sarah and Shelby got changed into some new dresses and done each others hair. they were wearing "Granny" style dresses and had their hair in a way that looked uncool and childish. We tried to use a variety of shots ranging from close ups to long shot and tried to incorporate zooms and other movements.

While filming we made sure to look through our footage before leaving to check if all the footage was ok and if we needed to refill anything.

Production meeting 4

In our last meeting we went through our ideas about what we could do for the digipak. Our main ideas was that during filming, we should take pictures so we have images of Shelby in the same costumes and the same setting (Like the white background). Another main idea was in the digipak, to have the inside like a journal of this uncool girl so that it would match the song. However we came up with a better idea; we used inspiration from Adele -Send my love.

These images show the idea that we are going to do, we are going to use these as inspiration to recolour images and make them transparent. The colours we will use will represent Shelby's journey through the music video so Blue being sad, Green for Envy and they Possible Yellow for happiness at the end and another colour to match her costume which would be red.

For the advert we are going to try and take some model style images so that it looks like a real advert and will catch peoples attention. We came up with many ideas during this last meeting and we decided to take many pictures and just play around with them all and see what loos best.

Production meeting 3

In this meeting we went around to all our locations to check where will be the best places to film like what setting and if there are any quite areas. We done this so that we could manage our time better when we actual go to film; we can go straight to where we need to go and film. This is good time management as no time would be wasted while filming results in more footage so that we have more usable scenes.

We went to both Romford and Lakeside to look at the areas and decided Lakeside would be best. In Lakeside we went around to the stores to see in advance who would let us film and if we could film without disruption. Some stores agreed and others did not.

We also looked at both school to pick every place we could film and where would be some great areas. We noticed that there was a space on the floor by a bin and this was very good as the characters would be sitting by a bin which could show that they no bodes and not popular so they sit by the bin.

Production meeting 2

In the second meeting, we went on the computer to look and more music videos and get more inspiration. This is because by this time we had already filmed some of our music video; therefore we looked at more inspiration to help us plan some more filming as we decided in this meeting we need more footage. We got all our planning documents up on the computer and put all the ideas together to come up with new footage we could film so that we could add some effects to them like slow motion.

In this meeting we also discussed that in our next meeting we should go out during the lesson quickly to look at our locations. We all then suggested that our last meeting should be for planning and talking about our digipak and advert.

Lastly, we spoke about who will do what roles when we have everything we need like pictures and footage. the roles we agreed one were:
  • Me - Editing the music video, editing the rough cut, sorting through all the footage, managing anything related to the music video
  • Sarah - Editing the pictures for the digipak and advert, sorting all the pictures out, managing anything to do with the digipak and advert
  • Shelby - her main role was the assist both me and Sarah, she will watch what we are doing and give us feedback as we go along to make the projects better and to make sure we stay inline with the ideas we discussed. She will also make nots on what we are doing and she will prepare  notes for the evaluation questions and will do the construction blogs about editing both the video and digipak.

Production meeting 1

In our first productions meeting, we were looking looking through our storyboard, other planing documents and ideas to see what should be our first plan of action. We was making sure our schedule to film was still accurate was Shelby works and Sarah has a project our of class to attend so this meant that our schedule was very busy so we needed to make sure that all the dates discussed where still a good time and available. We also were contacting friends to make sure they were available for the days which we went to film the cool kid scenes. We realised that sometimes Sarah was not available so me and shelby put some dates together so we could film the footage where Sarah would not be present.

After this we then planned who would have which roles. Sarah brought the costumes for herself and Shelby, Shelby brought the camera and her makeup, I brought the tripod and managed our friends like where to meet and their costumes.

During this first meeting we also discussed what footage we should film and in which locations. Therefore we looked at our storyboard and through our ideas to see if everything was ok and if we should plan to film extra footage elsewhere. We decided to add some more singing shots like the dolly shots. We then picked all the locations in which we could film; we debated which shopping centre to go too as Romford is more local but smaller and more crowded whereas Lakeside is further away but more quite and cleaner. We decided to go to Lakeside as the footage would look better. When filming the school scenes we also discussed which school to film in so we decided to film at both Eastbrook and Robert Clack so we could utilise both resources and all their different settings.

We then finished this meeting and decided to disuse the rest on our issues and planning then.
